Namorah Gayle Byrd, Assistant Professor of English at GCC, is a professional storyteller and spoken word poet.  The Black History Month event will celebrate African-American oral and print literary traditions by featuring African American poetry, prose, speeches, songs, storytelling, and music. Audience members from all cultural backgrounds are cordially invited to bring a favorite poem to share, family photo to show, or volunteer an ancestral family story to share.

Marcela Stein-Savelski will join Professor Byrd on Tuesday, highlighting the poetry and literature of African American authors from both North and South America. They will share readings or recitations of their favorite authors and literary selections, delivering some of the pieces in English and Spanish. During the session, students will read their original writings aloud. Guests are welcome to come and share in the vibrant literary traditions of the African American community.
