For the third year in a row the Gloucester County College Fall Athletic Teams and GCC Staff have worked with the “Operation Backpack” Team to provide new backpacks and school supplies to local schoolchildren in need. The Women’s Soccer and Women’s Tennis Teams took the lead again this year and each team did a terrific job (see photos below).

“This is a great program and we are glad that all the resources go to kids and families in our communities,” said GCC Assistant Director of Athletics Brian Rowan who is also an Assistant Coach with the Women’s Tennis program. “We also think this is a really nice early season bonding experience for our players.”

The teams each set about collecting supplies and new backpacks during their early season practices while a collection box was also set up in the GCC Athletic Department Office. This year over 25 new backpacks were collected and several boxes of school supplies including notebooks, markers, crayons, and more were used to fill the packs before turning them in to the Gloucester County Volunteer Center.
