Wrestling Defeats USMAPS on Opening Night

The 2009-10 Roadrunners pulled out a win on opening night of the wrestling season

November 18, 2009, Deptford, NJ

The Roadrunners opened their dual match season with a 33-16 win over visiting US Military Academy Prep. The Roadrunners won by fall at 125lb. Ryan Layton (Clearview Regional HS), 165lb. Matt Cutchineal and 184lb. Dakota Moore. The other winner on the mat was sophomore Eric Thompson who won a 7-1 decision at 157lb. The Roadrunners 133lb. Andrew Augilar and Heavyweight Dan Walker (Delsea Regional HS) both received forfeit wins.

Layton was pleased with his opening night performance but sees room for improvement individually and for the team. "We are a lot stronger as a team than we were last season but tonight was just a so so performance," Layton said. "I felt good warming up and got the win but we all need to work on the little stuff and work together in the room if we are going to compete for a national championship." A national qualifier last season, he hopes to improve this year and reach the All-American round at the National Tournament.

The Roadrunners will be at home again on December 9th against Williamson Trade School and December 18th against Thaddeus Stevens. The majority of the Roadrunners schedule is regional tournaments. This weekend they will head to the East Stroudsburg Open.
