Gloucester County College athletic teams have won fourteen NJCAA National Championships and GCC athletes have garnered individual national championships on twenty-one different occasions. 249 Roadrunners have been named as NJCAA All-Americans. Gloucester County College offers a comprehensive13-sport athletic program for men and women.

The GCC athletic program has received numerous awards for its successes.  Most recently the program was named the number two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) non-scholarship program in the country by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) for 2006-2007.   The prestigious Pepsi NATYCAA Cup is highly contested for across the United States by over 200 schools.  The athletic program has been awarded the CAANJ Cup, which recognizes the best overall two year college athletic program in the state of New Jersey six times (1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2001-2002, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007).

As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), GCC competes in Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference against other two-year colleges from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland.
