TECHNICAL SKILL ASSESSMENT
National, state and/or local assessments provide ongoing information on the extent to which students are attaining the necessary knowledge and technical skills for entry into the workforce, or advancement into postsecondary education and careers in their chosen program of study (POS).

Well-developed technical skill assessments will: (1) measure student attainment of skill proficiencies at multiple points during a POS; (2) employ industry-approved technical skills assessments based on industry standards, when available and appropriate; (3) employ State-developed and/or approved assessments when industry-approved assessments do not exist; and, (4) incorporate performance-based assessment items, to the greatest extent possible, when students must demonstrate the application of their knowledge and skills.
