TRENTON, N.J. – On Monday evening, June 17 during its annual New Jersey Community College Awards Ceremony, the New Jersey Council of County Colleges presented the 2013 Community College Spirit Award to Gloucester County College Continuing Education Sales Manager Allen Magid for his exemplary service to New Jersey’s community colleges.

“Since its inauguration in 1993, the Community College Spirit Award has been an honor bestowed to those who embody the community college spirit – perseverance, dedication and excellence,” said NJCCC Chairman Bakari G. Lee, Esq.
Magid, of Clayton, was recognized for his work in promoting the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association Basic Skills Workforce Training Program to businesses in Southern New Jersey.

“Working with the Workforce Consortium staff and the NJBIA, Gloucester County College has provided an unprecedented number of training courses offered via the NJBIA Basic Skills Workforce Training Program, thanks to Allen’s leadership,” Lee added.

The Workforce Consortium, established in 2004, is a central one-stop contact that develops and delivers education and training programs to New Jersey businesses, agencies and organizations. One of these programs is the NJBIA Basic Skills Workforce Training Program, which provides mathematics, communication, customer service, and computer skills training to small businesses throughout the state. Since its inception, the Workforce Consortium has trained over 86,000 employees at over 4,200 New Jersey businesses.

In his role as customized training sales manager, Magid develops new accounts and maintains existing accounts with businesses throughout Gloucester County. He prepares customized training grants for new and existing accounts and assist clients with grant submissions to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

In addition to his duties at the College, Magid is a member of the New Jersey Network of Occupational Trainers, the Tri-State Human Resources Organization, the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, and the Washington Township Chamber of Commerce.

Magid holds a bachelor of arts in secondary education from Jersey City University.

The New Jersey Council of County Colleges is the state association representing New Jersey’s 19 community colleges. As an independent, trustee-headed organization that joins the leadership of trustees and presidents, the Council is the voice of the community college sector before the state legislature and other branches of government. The Council is also the state coordinating organization for all community colleges in New Jersey.
