WHAT IS DISTANCE LEARNING?
Distance learning offers an alternative to traditional classroom learning by providing convenient educational opportunities without the normal constraints of time or place. Distance learning provides students with a flexible way of attending GCC.

GCC offers two types of distance learning opportunities: online courses and telecourses. Students enrolled in an online course do not attend classes on campus; they participate in an online learning community via the Internet. Students enrolled in a telecourse view professional quality videos on their own. No matter what the mode of delivery, distance learning students have ready access to their instructors by email, phone, and scheduled office hours.

Distance learning courses are part of GCC’s regular course offerings and are fully equivalent to courses taught on campus. Courses may be applied to a GCC degree or certificate, taken as electives, or for general interest or professional development. The faculty for these courses are the same professional experts you meet in our classrooms, and the learning experience is equally rewarding.

GCC endorses the New Jersey Virtual University's statement, "In most cases, distance education is learner-centered, with faculty functioning as a facilitator or moderator rather than a lecturer. It is a mistake, however, to think that distance learning will be easier than learning in conventional classes; you may find it requires more work, and it certainly requires self-discipline.

Students enrolled in distance learning courses have the full-range of student and academic services available to them including library resources, academic advising, tutoring, counseling, and the convenience of purchasing textbooks online.
