ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION FOR PATROL OFFICERS

Description:
This course is designed to give the patrol officer with little or no formal training in accident investigation better insight into the proper interpretation and gathering of physical evidence at a motor vehicle collision. The class is ideal for officers who frequently investigate accidents and want to enhance their knowledge and skills. This is a course designed for those officers who have attended the two week advanced accident investigation courses at Gloucester County Police Academy or Sea Girt. ADVANCED  TRAFFIC  CRASH  RECONSTRUCTION  WITH   WIN CRASH
3/3/08 - 3/7/08

This course is designed for the experienced crash investigator who has successfully completed IPTM's Traffic Crash Reconstruction course or its equivalent.  Students must have an understanding of linear momentum as they will be guided through the trajectory analysis and graphical solution of linear momentum using vector analysis.  Additionally, students will be guided through the reconstruction of vehicle crashes from pre-collision events and avoidance potential to the dynamics of the collision phase to the spin-out of the vehicles with "hands-on" use of WinCrash computer software designed for the course.  Students must have a basic operating knowledge of microcomputers to attend this class, and WinCrash software will be provided free of charge to each student.  New Jersey officers will be given preference over out-of-state officers in the registration process.

APPLIED  PHYSICS  FOR  THE  TRAFFIC  CRASH  INVESTIGATOR

This course will provide you with a more thorough understanding of the physics that are applied in the reconstruction of a traffic crash or any other incident where motion is involved.  While some of the topics discussed in the course are introduced in basic crash investigation and reconstruction courses, they will be given significantly more in-depth coverage in this course.  In addition, Applied Physics for the Traffic Crash Investigator will prepare students for the concepts presented in advanced reconstruction courses using computer modeling.  PREREQUISITE:  IPTM'S  ADVANCED  TRAFFIC  CRASH INVESTIGATION  COURSE  OR  ITS  EQUIVALENT.  New Jersey officers will be given preference over out-of-state officers in the registration process.

BASIC COURSE FOR POLICE OFFICERS

The Basic Class for police officers consists of 950 hours of training mandated by the Police Training Commission and includes over 100 hours of physical fitness, 40 hours of firearms training, 40 hours of first responder, 12 hours side-handle baton, and over 250 hours of academic subjects. Applicants must be sworn, full-time employees of a municipal, county, or state institution and conform to all the standards prescribed by the New Jersey Police Training Commission.

BICYCLE PATROL SCHOOL

Description:
This course is taught by an International Police Mountain Bike Association certified instructor and includes training in accident avoidance, comfort and efficiency, stair climbs and descents, legal rights of cyclists, liabilty concerns of bike patrols, bicyle handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and much more. A high quality mountain bike, bike uniforms, at least three weeks riding experience prior to the start of the class, bicycling gloves, eye protection, and a full medical clearance are required prior to the start of class.

Description:
This definitive course is based on the best selling law enforcement book of all time, The Traffic Investigation Manual. It provides in-depth coverage of the skills your people need to systemically investigate a traffic accident, including the ability to recognize critical evidence at the scene and to preserve and record it promptly. Techniques of recognizing and properly recording accident results on roadways and vehicles are also thoroughly presented. Officers will learn how to make measurements, sketches, after accident diagrams, and photographs of the accident scene. CRASH INVESTIGATION II

Description:
Crash Investigation II will enhance the capability and credibility of your at-scene investigators. The course is designed to develop skills in technically preparing AI data and collecting follow-up data required by prosecutors, defense attorneys, claim adjusters, fleet supervisors, reconstructionists, and highway safety engineers. The course's emphasis is on vehicle damage analysis and vehicle behavior in accidents. CRASH INVESTIGATIONS USING MOMENTUM ANALYSIS

This course is designed primarily for police officers with advanced training in crash investigation who wish to obtain additional or refresher training in the use of momentum analysis for speed calculations. CRIME PREVENTION FOR THE PRACTITIONER

DDC 8 DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE

Description:
This eight-hour National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course will provide drivers with knowledge and safe driving techniques to prevent collisions and violations. The course addresses common driving violations that result in collisions and how to change driving habits to eliminate moving violations. Students will learn how to recognize both potential and immediate hazards, how to avoid collisions in a variety of driving conditions, and how to choose safe and legal driving behaviors. The course emphasis is on identifying and choosing safe and legal behind-the-wheel behaviors and actions. DEFENSIVE TACTICS REFRESHER

Description:
This two-day (2) day hands-on course provides officers with fundamentals of self-defense, handcuffing, and how to effectively subdue a suspect without causing severe injury. This course is designed to refamiliarize the officer in the safe and effective use of handcuffs and non-lethal defensive tactics. Officers will be trained in tactical deployment, handcuffing procedures, pat-down methods. Handcuffing for compliant and non-compliant suspects will be covered. Legal considerations such as positional asphyxiation will be discussed during the classroom presentation. There may be a short lecture/video, combined with the hands-on training using dynamic simulation. EXPLOSIVES AND IED FAMILIARIZATION

This course will provide an introduction to and familiarization with explosives. It will assist the officer in the identification of explosives and examine precautions to be taken in an explosives and/or improvised explosive device (IED) incident. The class will provide the officer with an overview of the federal explosives statutes enforced by the ATF and the interagency cooperation that goes into an explosives-related investigation. FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Description:
The objective of this course is to equip the student with the expertise to develop and administer departmental firearms programs. Successful completion of the course will also qualify the participant for certification to instruct in basic training and in-service programs.Subject material includes the legal responsibilities of a rangemaster, legal and moral use of deadly force, vicarious liability, nomenclature, care and maintenance of the modern handgun, gun battle statistics, teaching single and double action shooting, range

HANDCUFFING  INSTRUCTOR  COURSE

INSURANCE FRAUD

Description:
This eight-hour course will provide the student with an understanding of various insurance frauds. Included in the instruction will be those laws applicable to insurance fraud, including Title 2C, Title 39, and the Insurance Fraud Prevention Act Title 17:33A. During these presentations, the student will become familiar with routinely committed insurance frauds such as health care claims fraud, staged automobile accidents, auto give-up schemes, slip and falls, homeowners insurance policy frauds, organized criminal enterprises, and application frauds. The student will learn how to recognize fraudulent automobile insurance cards, verify their validity, and appropriately charge violators. The training is designed for both patrol officers and investigative personnel. Officers having either a first response role to accidents, burglaries, thefts, and vehicular traffic stops, and those having a supplemental investigative to these offenses should attend.

PEDESTRIAN/BICYCLE   CRASH   INVESTIGATION

Pedestrian and bicycle crashes are one of the most frequent types of injurious crashes in urban areas.  Because of their unique nature, special techinques are required to investigate and reconstruct these incidents.  This course addresses the special dynamics involved in pedestrian and bicycle traffic crashes.  From reaction times to victim injury analysis to environmental factors, students will learn to recognize and interpret the evidence and corrrelate it with the collision sequence.  In addition to classroom instruction, practical exercises and staged crash situations will be used to give you "hands-on" experience.  PREREQUISITE:  IPTM'S AT SCENE TRAFFIC CRASH/TRAFFIC HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION COURSE OR ITS EQUIVALENT. This 40-hour, Police Training Commission accredited course prepares an officer to gain certification as a physical training instructor. Students will learn the implementation of the Police Training Commission Physical Conditioning program. Description:

This sixteen (16) hour course will provide a foundation for law enforcement professionals in basic English skills and expertise in writing investigative narratives. The class addresses the qualities of a good report and outlines the areas of information covered by a clear, concise, well-written police narrative. Students will learn to incorporate English grammar and composition skills with proven effective police report writing techniques and strategies. The course also emphasizes the importance of correct English composition for accurate police reports. Practice exercises are provided to afford the students an opportunity to put into use the concepts and techniques presented. Applicants must have the same qualifications as a regular officer and be appointed as a special officer II before attendance will be approved.

Description:
This course focuses on the identification and explanation of theories relative to leadership and command and has been modeled after the West Point Command and Leadership Training. This class should be mandatory for first line supervisors, as well as Field Training Officers and coaches. We are drawing upon the material of the West Point school in an effort to conceptualize and operationalize motivational theories that impact directly or indirectly accomplishing the goals and objectives of an organization.

TRAFFIC CRASH RECONSTRUCTION

Description:
This class builds upon IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation course by assisting you further in understanding vehicle dynamics. Students will take part in a more intense study of time/distance calculations, angular momentum and impact speed calculations using Momentum equations .Topics include: derivation and origin of the commonly used speed formulas, speed of vehicles at impact using conservation of linear momentum, behavior of vehicles in a collision using Newton's three laws of motion, discussions of commercial vehicle and motorcycle dynamics in collisions, and determination of direction of travel, initial contact and position of vehicles on the roadway. Prerequisite: IPTM's Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation (80 hours) course or its equivalent.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS

Description:
Prerequisites for Vehicle dynamics are the successful completion of Crash Investigation I and Crash Investigation II. This course that prepares the student for crash reconstruction is one week in duration. Course content includes Newton's Law of Motion, coefficient of friction and drag factors, basic motion equations, velocity, time, acceleration and distance, speed estimates, momentum, and energy.
