Getting Started : Transfer Procedures

Transfer Credit
A student transferring from another regionally accredited institution may transfer credit for courses in which a grade of “C” or better was received. Grades from such courses are not included in the GCC cumulative Grade Point Average. Transfer credit evaluations are available only to students attending the current semester at GCC.

Transfer applicants must complete the “Request for Transfer of College Credits” form. These forms are available from and need to be returned to the Admissions Office. It is the transfer student’s responsibility to request all official transcripts and have them forwarded to the GCC Admissions Office.

Transfer credits are awarded based on the transfer evaluator’s findings. Students are notified by mail of the evaluation results.

Prospective students may request an unofficial evaluation of college credits by contacting the GCC Admissions Office. No transfer of credits will occur, however, until an official transfer credit evaluation is complete.

Nursing and Allied Health Programs will only transfer in Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and Microbiology courses that have been completed successfully within the last six years.

Transfer Opportunities
Students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution need to contact a transfer advisor early in their college career to tailor course selection to the needs of the transfer institution.

The College has entered into transfer agreements with various universities to ensure that students who receive a degree from GCC can complete the last two years of a bachelor’s degree at the four-year institution. (NOTE: some programs may require longer than two additional years to obtain a bachelor’s degree.)

In effect since September 2008, New Jersey community college graduates benefit from legislation aimed at promoting the seamless transfer of community college graduates into baccalaureate degree programs at New Jersey's public four-year colleges and universities.

The Statewide Transfer Agreement is a common statewide approach that aims to provide for the seamless transfer of academic credits from completed Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree programs into related baccalaureate degree programs at any of the State's public senior institutions.

With proper advanced transfer research and timely consultation with transfer counselors, the streamlined transfer system encourages students to pursue their educational goals without fear of losing credits earned at their community college.

GCC Instant Decision Transfer Day
A by-invitation-only, on-campus activity for prospective graduates is held every February. Transfer Day involves participating-area senior institutions who meet on a one-on-one basis with applying students and offer on-the-spot admission decisions.

The invitation is extended ONLY to students scheduled to graduate in May, December, or summer, and who have completed a Graduation Petition.

Dual Degree Program (DDP): Rutgers University
Rutgers will offer admission into the DDP program to a select group of first-year, New Jersey high school students. These first-year students offered admission through the DDP will begin their studies by enrolling at Gloucester County College or at any other NJ community college. Upon completion of an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree, DDP participants will be admitted to at least one college of Rutgers University, provided a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00 has been achieved in a Recommended Transfer Program (RTP).

The RTPs are described in the online course articulation system, NJ TRANSFER, www.njtransfer.org. This Web-based information system provides students with specific course requirements and additional pertinent information related to the major. By using NJ TRANSFER, DDP students can determine course requirements for the first two years of each Rutgers baccalaureate program and choose their classes accordingly.

To be among the select group of students considered for this program, New Jersey high school students should complete a Rutgers University application by the December 1 priority application date. No separate DDP application is required.

Students who are currently enrolled at Gloucester County College, or any other two-year or four-year college, are not eligible for this program.

Baccalaureate Program: Thomas Edison State College
GCC graduates who are at least 21 years old can work toward their bachelor’s degrees at Thomas Edison State College in-county, through courses offered face-to-face in the traditional classroom at GCC, or by completing credits via telecourses or online. Contact the Office of Student Development at 856-415-2197 for more information.

GCC’s Academic Testing Center is a test proctoring site for students enrolled at Thomas Edison State College. Please call 856-415-2262 or 856-415-2238 for testing appointments.
