The GCC Athletic
Program has a great tradition of success and championships. Over
the past 20 years the school has had 18 NJCAA National
Championship teams and over 275 All-Americans. However, the
program is also proud of the success that our student-athletes
have had in the classroom and all of our teams community service
efforts. In 2009-10 the Roadrunners earned our first NJCAA
Region 19 Champions of Character Award for our community service
efforts. This year the Roadrunners kicked off our community
service campaign by participating in the Gloucester County
Autism Walk October 1st starting at the RiverWinds Community
Center in West Deptford, NJ. Over 75 GCC student-athletes,
coaches, and faculty participated in the walk along with GCC
Interim President Fred Keating. The Wrestling, Baseball, and
Men's and Women's Tennis Teams all participated.
The team collected
over $500 in donations that were also turned in prior to the
walk. Members of the GCC Softball, Cross Country, and Men's and
Women's Soccer Teams also helped collect donations. Overall the 2011 Gloucester County Autism Walk has
collected over $43,000 to date and will continue to collect
donations through the end of the year.
Thank you to everyone
who purchased a Sponsor Card or made a donation to the team. All
donations were turned in the day of the event.
We hope to make this
an annual event for our GCC Athletic Program and add to our
number of participants and fundraising efforts for future
events.
