Men's Soccer Hires Dugan to Lead Program

January 12, 2012 Deptford Twp., NJ

Gloucester County College is pleased to announce the hiring of new Head Men’s Soccer Coach Jason Dugan. Dugan was approved Tuesday evening at the January meeting of the GCC Board of Trustees and will begin immediately. Dugan, a graduate of Rowan University and Ocean City HS, is charged with the task of rebuilding a program that has struggled recently in the very competitive NJCAA Region 19 which annually boasts teams ranked in the national top ten polls. GCC Director of Athletics Ron Case thinks Dugan will be up to the task, “I am really optimistic that Jason brings us the right mix of youthful enthusiasm and experience and look forward to him doing a great job with our program.”

During the search for a new coach Dugan stood out for his enthusiasm and approach to recruiting. A May 2010 graduate of Rowan University he becomes the youngest coach on the GCC staff but the Roadrunners believe that Dugan will be able to attract some of the top players from Gloucester County and the surrounding area to come play for him. “With the success he has had as a player on two NJ state championship teams in high school and as a two-time captain and All-NJAC performer in college he brings one level of credibility that will help him with the players he is recruiting,” said Case. “Beyond that we think he will work the players hard and put them in the right positions to succeed here at GCC and then move on to four year schools.”

Dugan has previously coached as an assistant at Clearview Regional HS and at Rowan University. This will be his first head coaching position. Dugan is aware of the athletic tradition at GCC and wants to raise the expectations for the soccer program, “When it comes to college soccer, the ultimate goal is to win a national title. That is what we are going to be striving for every year.”  Dugan continued, “Realistically in my first season, I really just want to change the culture of the program.  I want players to want to come to GCC because they want to play for a competitive team and a respected program.  GCC is such a great college academically and extremely successful in athletics.  I want the soccer program to reflect these great qualities about GCC.”

Q & A With Jason Dugan - Men's Soccer

Q: What will be your first order of business as the new coach at GCC?

A: The first order of business is recruiting. I want this to be a program that emphasizes winning while at the same time molds youg men into better athletes and ultimately better people. I need hard-working, skilled, smart and tough players that I can put together to make a winning team. I plan to recruit as hard as possible to get the kind of players we are looking for.

Q: What can players that choose to come to GCC expect from your program?

A: First and most importantly, players that come to GCC are going to get a great education and are going to be well prepared to finish their degree at a four year institution. As for the soccer program, they can expect a competitive, hard-working, winning atmosphere. At the same time, they can expect to have fun. Soccer is the greatest game in the world and playing it at the college level is an incredible experience. Along the way we are going to have some fun, win games, and grow as people. I can't wait until August when it all starts.
