2009 Javelin National Champion Chris Johnston began the new season on Saturday

March 6, 2010 Salisbury, MD

The Gloucester County College Track and Field teams opened up their outdoor track season this weekend at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Opener.  The Roadrunners faced chilly temperatures but had several hot performances.  The team had 8 performances that were qualifiers for the NJCAA National Championships.

Some of the highlights of the meet included a 2nd place finish in the javelin for both the men and women with Chris Johnston and Abby Majekodumni both getting national qualifiers.  The men's 400m hurdle event was dominated by GCC with a gold medal performance and a 3rd place finish by Greg Taylor and Ali Ejaz respectively, also getting national qualifiers.  The men's 4x400m relay team finished off the meet in grand style with a hard fought battle that ended in another gold medal performance with a win and national qualifier by the team of Greg Taylor, Ali Ejaz, Willie Anderson and Brian Keene.

In the team scoring, GCC was the top junior college team with respectable finishes for only having 2/3 of the team attending the first meet.  The men finished in 4th and the women in 6th at the 9 team invitational.
