Roadrunners Compete In Long Island, Men Win

The Gloucester County College cross country teams took a journey to Sunken Meadow State Park in New York to participate in the St. Joe's College Invitational and to preview the course they will be running the national Championships on in 3 weeks.  The women fared well, with Amanda Dole leading the way with a silver medal performance placing second in 21:46 on the challenging course.  Francesca Contino had an impressive race to place 14th in 24:55.  Rounding out the roadrunner pack were Stephanie Lees in 18th place (25:50) and Lauren Zauzig in 25th (26:38).

The men's team dominated the competition by sweeping the top 3 places.  Leading the way was Ozzie Huerta winning in 27:05.  Placing 2nd and 3rd were Ryan Huff (28:31) and JP McCarvill (29:22) respectively.  Next for the Roadrunners, with his best race of the season, was Walt Riskie placing 10th in 31:09. Finishing up the scoring for the men were Anthony Higareda 12th in 31:32 and Daniel Colon 15th in 31:54.  In the team scoring, the roadrunner men, who are currently ranked #2 in the nation,  easily came away with a victory.  The men won the competition with 28pts over Suffolk CC with 52pts.

Next up for the GCC teams are the Region 19 Championships at Thompson Park in Lincroft, NJ. The Roadrunner men will be favored in this meet but could face competition from Brookdale CC and Ocean CC. Check back for more information on this race later in the week...
