Athletics: Women's Soccer

The 2007 GCC women's soccer team posts most successful season in GCC women’s soccer history.  After a slow start the Roadrunners won eleven of their last 13 games and earned a birth in the NJCAA Women’s DIII Soccer National Championship.  In the national semifinal game, GCC was matched against the defending national champion Richland College from Richland, Texas.  A strong defensive showing held the Thundering Ducks potent offense to a single goal and GCC outscored them 2-1.  In the championship game the Roadrunners faced the Hornets of Broome Community College from Binghamton, New York.  An outstanding defensive showing by GCC held the explosive Broome team in check allowing GCC to take a 1-0 advantage into the second half.  The Roadrunners were outscored in the second half and fell short by a final score of 2-1 in the championship game.  The 2007 season marked the first trip to the national tournament for the GCC women’s soccer program culminating a great season which will not soon be forgotten.

With many key freshmen on the team in 2007, expectations are already high for the 2008 campaign. Congratulations go out to all of the team members for achieving the best season ever!
