The Roadrunners advanced to the Championship Round matches in 8 of the 9 available flights but were only able to come up with one win on Saturday afternoon at Mercer County Park. Bergen CC earned the Region Championship.

Gloucester County College Men’s Tennis enters this weekend’s NJCAA Region 19 Tournament as the four-time defending Champions and the favorites but will face stiff competition from Bergen Community College for the title this year. The Roadrunners (14-7 overall) went undefeated in Region 19 play this season. The tournament will take place at Mercer County Park with first round matches starting at 9:30am on Friday. The tournament concludes with the final rounds of singles and doubles play on Saturday afternoon. The Tournament Champion receives an automatic invitation to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament May 13-19 in Plano, TX.

Gloucester County College Men's Tennis improved to 11-5 on the season and 8-0 in NJCAA Region 19 play with their most impressive win of the season over host Bergen CC on Saturday afternoon at Overpeck Park in Leonia, NJ. The Roadrunners got behind 2-1 after the completion of the doubles play. The #1 doubles team of Donovan Vassalotti (Sacred Heart HS) and Mike Perrone (Lenape HS) defeated Keith Lee and Jiabo He 9-7 but the Roadrunners #2 and #3 doubles team both dropped close decisions. Needing four wins in the six singles matches the Roadrunners summoned their best tennis of the season. #2 singles Perrone defeated Carlos Munoz 6-1, 6-0. #3 singles Shamell Martin (Millville HS) defeated Kyle Fligel 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. #4 singles Jon Sjolander (Pitman HS) defeated Jiabo He 6-3, 7-5. #5 singles Nick Louis (Woodbury HS) defeated Eric Sapiro 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The deciding match came at #6 singles as Tim Durham (Millville HS) came from a set down to defeat Rich Mills 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Durham (pictured) trailed 5-2 in the third before rattling off the matches final five games for the win.

The GCC Baseball Team, now 28-2 overall, has been moved to #1 in the latest NJCAA National Poll out today from Colorado Springs, CO. The team has been led by the starting pitching which has been consistent throughout the year.

The Roadrunners opened their Region 19 schedule today and scored two impressive wins over Northampton CC. In Game 1 Melissa Mackey allowed only 5 hits in a complete game 12-4 win. Taylor Rizzotte and Brianna Villarri had three hits apiece and Brittany Fitzmaurice had three RBI's and some great defensive plays. In Game 2 Erin Huesser got the complete game win in an 11-0 shutout. Villarri was the star of the game with 3 hits and 5 RBI's with one of those hits a monster 3-run HR well over the 225ft. leftfield fence.

The Roadrunners have cancelled Monday's home game vs. Suffolk CC and will next play on Tuesday vs. local rival Camden CC.

GCC Softball started the season with two wins over CC Morris on Saturday afternoon at home. Game 1 was a 10-6 where sophomore Briana Villari (pictured) had two hits and two RBI's to lead the way. Erin Huesser scored the win on the mound. In Game 2 newcomer Melissa Mackey held CC Morris to just one run in a 9-1 winning effort. Mackey helped her own cause by knocking in three RBI's of her own. Sophomore Brittany Fitzmaurice had three hits and an RBI as well.
The Roadrunners were cancelled on Sunday due to inclement weather.

The Roadrunners are competing at the NJCAA National Championships and 141lb'er Cody Fobes has become an NJCAA All-American. Fobes joins the list of 64 other All-Americans in GCC Program history.

Cody won his first match over Alex Anderson from Iowa Lakes in an 11-4 decision. He won his second match 6-5 over Tyler Davis from Labette CC. Fobes lost his third bout and moved into the "wrestle back" rounds. Fobes 11-6 win over Peter Stewart of Iowa Western then insured him of no less than an 8th place finish and spot on the All-American podium.
