The 2010 Gloucester County College Baseball Team

The Roadrunners will make their annual spring trip from March 12-19 where they will play 7 games in Florida and Georgia. The Roadrunners are 1-0 on the season so far with their first game a 13-2 win over Mercer CC.

Saturday 3/13/2010 Recap...

The Roadrunners dropped their first game of the trip in a 24-12 decision against Lincoln Trail College (8-5) a Division I junior college from Illinois. Sophomore P Nick Alloway fell to 1-1 on the season. Four Roadrunners hit home runs in the game including Jim Best (1), Alexi Colon (2), Francisco Rodriguez (1), and Matt Cuervo (1). In the second game, Rogriguez led the way by going 2-5 with a HR (2) and 3 RBI's. Sophomore P Matt Smith (1-0) picked up the win. The Roadrunners will travel tonight and then play again on Sunday against Darton College.

Monday 3/15/2010 Recap...

The Roadrunners picked up a nice 12-6 win over host South Georgia College (16-9). Sophomore Mike Ney (1-0) picked up the win. Ney pitched 7 innings while giving up only 2 earned runs. He struck out 8 while walking only 1 batter. Francisco Rodriguez went 3-4 in the game with 4 RBI's. The Roadrunners will play again tomorrow at South Georgia College, a Division I junior college that has one of the nicest junior college baseball facilities in the country. Monday's win made the Roadrunners 2-1 overall on their trip so far. They have scored 12 runs in each of their three contests.

Tuesday 3/16/2010 Recap...

The Roadrunners trailed heading into the 9th inning on Tuesday but scored 6 runs in that inning to secure the come-from-behind win. The Roadrunners are now 3-1 on their road trip and have a day off before playing two more games on Thursday. Sophomore P Matt Smith (2-0) picked up the win for the Roadrunners. Dave Prager went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Alexi Colon hit the game-winning double.

Thursday 3/18/2010 Recap...

The Roadrunners traveled to Swainsboro, GA for a doubleheader with East Georgia College on Thursday. In game one, sophomore JJ Williams went 3-3 and scored three times to lead the way offensively. Ronny Tanner also scored three times and hit a HR. Freshman P Matt Spillman (1-0) struck out 7 batters over five innings to pick up his first win of the year. In the second game sophomore P Nick Alloway (2-1) dominated by striking out 10 batters and only allowing 2 hits in a 7 inning complete game victory. Jim Best went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and John Garozzo also went 2-3 with a run scored. The wins improved the Roadrunner record to 6-1 overall and 5-1 on the trip so far.

Friday 3/19/2010 Recap...

On Friday the Roadrunners wrapped up their road trip against another team traveling south, Muscatine Community College from Muscatine, IA. In game one, freshman P Rob Swift (1-0) picked up the complete game win. He struck out 12 batters and gave up only 3 earned runs. JJ Williams went 2-3 in the game with a run scored and sophomore OF Mark Malec went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. In the final game of the road trip Matt Smith (3-0) picked up another win with a four inning performance. Sophomore CF Alexi Colon hit two home runs in the game and collected three RBI's.

Overall, the team went 7-1 on their road trip. When they return home they will get a two days off before opening NJCAA Region XIX competition against local rival Camden CC on Tuesday March 23rd.
