ROADRUNNERS READY FOR WINNER TAKE ALL FINAL
May 26, 2011 Tyler, TX

Championship Night #1 turned out to be a tough one for the Roadrunners as they were defeated 15-2.  The game started out bad for GCC as Eastfield scored seven runs in the first inning and the Harvesters never looked back the rest of the night.  The best thing for Gloucester County College is that they have another crack at Eastfield and the NJCAA National Baseball Championship on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. The Roadrunners will be ready as the pitching staff's top guns Matt Spillman and Andy Sullivan should be rested and ready to go. The game will be webcast live again tonight and you can get that by checking in on the official tournament website: http://www.apacheathletics.com/f/NJCAA_D3_Baseball_National_Tournament_Home.php

Ronny Tanner, John Garozzo, and Mike Schatzman paced the Roadrunners with two hits each.

Two big innings carried the Roadrunners passed Manchester Community College and into the NJCAA Division III Championship game for the second year in a row.  GCC [31-16] scored four runs in the second inning and eight runs in the fifth inning to break the game wide open.  Manchester refused to quit and scored five runs in the seventh inning to close the gap to 13-9, but the Roadrunners rebounded with a two run eighth to seal the deal.  Second baseman Ronny Tanner had a "day" with five hits in six at bats, scored three runs and drove in four runs.  Eric Barbieri continued his torrid pace with three hits in six at bats.  Shortstop Dan Lang with three hits, Sean Feeney with two hits, and John Garozzo with two hits also paced the Roadrunners.  Bob Applegate started the game for GCC and pitched six plus innings to earn the win.  Reno Regalbuto pitched the final nine outs to record the save.  Gloucester County will now wait until Wednesday night at 7:00 PM to play in the Championship game.  Erie and Eastfield will play on Tuesday with the winner advancing to play Manchester at 7:00 PM also on Tuesday.  The winner of the 7:00 PM Tuesday game will play Gloucester County College on Wednesday.  That team will have to defeat Gloucester County twice to win the championship.

GAME 2 RECAP

Gloucester County College 7   Joliet Junior College    3

Gloucester County advanced in the winners bracket at the 2011 NJCAA Division III World Series with a gut wrenching 7-3 victory over Joliet Junior College on Sunday afternoon.  The Roadrunners jumped on top in the first inning on a Logan Morello single and an Eric Barbieri double to the left center field wall,  A Sean Feeney doublet off the right field wall with the bases loaded plated three more GCC runs in the third inning to increase the Roadrunner lead to 4-0.  An Eric Barbieri sacrifice fly added a run in the sixth,  In the eighth inning Eric Barbieri launched a titanic shot off the top of the 30 foot high left field wall that scored, Dan Lang and Logan Morello to finish the GCC scoring.  Overall Eric Barbieri went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four runs batted in.  Sean Feeney accounted for three runs batted in, and Logan Morello and Dan Lang added two hits apiece.  Andy Sullivan pitched the first 7.1 innings allowing only 3 runs [2 earned] to pick up the victory.  Casey McMickle pitched the final 1.2 innings to record the save.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Monday, with a 7:00 PM game against the winner of the Manchester Community College - Erie Community College winner.

GAME 1 RECAP

Gloucester County College spotted #1 ranked Suffolk County Community College [NY] six first inning runs before roaring back to defeat the Sharks 8-7.  After closing the deficit to 6-2, GCC errupted for five funs in the fifth inning to take the lead 7-6.  Key hits were made by Ronny Tanner [3-5], Brett Burdsall [1-2 ], John Garozzo [1-4], Dan Lang [2-3], and Matt Cuervo [2-4].  Suffolk tied the game in the sixth with a run to set the stage for a dramatic eigth inning.  Danny Lang singled to right field and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  After Brett Burdsall walked, Logan Morello lined a single to right field to plate Lang and give the Roadrunners the lead.  A diving catch by Sean Feeney enabled the Roadrunners to stop any comeback effort by Suffolk in the ninth.  Matt Spillman pitched a complete game for GCC allowing nine hits and four earned runs.

GCC will play Joliet Junior College at 4:00 PM, tomorrow.
