The Gloucester County College men’s and women’s cross country teams started their season this past weekend at the Dukes Invitational hosted by Cumberland County College. The teams traveled to the sandy course and returned with several awards and a very promising outlook for the season.
In the men’s race, Alec Connelly and Andre Thompson, who completely dominated the race after the first mile, made a spectacular showing. The two worked together and opened up a tremendous gap on third place to easily maintain the lead and strike with a great 1-2 punch for GCC. As a team, the men finished in 2nd place behind Howard CC.
In the women’s race, the team was led by Amanda Dole and Tracy Dobkowski who charged to the front right from the gun. The two battled the heat and sand and finished in the top 10 to earn awards. As a team, the women finished in 3rd place behind Ocean CC and Alvernia.
