Soph Matt Maccarone Named National Player of the Week
Colorado Springs, CO
September 9, 2009
The Roadrunner men's soccer team is off to a 2-1 start this season and a key member of the team has been sophomore Matt Maccarone. For his efforts early this season, Maccarone has been named NJCAA National Player of the Week. The announcement came today from the national office in Colorado Springs, CO.
Maccarone had a steady freshman season but has shown flashes of excellence early in this season. In the opening day win, he scored two goals and also played some great defense. He is able to play several positions on the field which adds to his versatility. "Slash" may become a fitting nickname for Matt as he often starts game in the defensive backfield and then shifts to the front of the offensive attack. In the second game of the season he started in the back line then shifted up front and scored a goal before moving back to a defensive position and saving a sure goal from reaching the net.
Maccarone is currently in the top 10 in the nation in total points and goals scored.
