Men's Tennis Wins Region 19 Title

NJCAA Region 19 Champions - Men's Tennis

May 4-5, 2012 Trenton, NJ

The GCC Roadrunner Men's Tennis Team will be headed to Plano, TX on Saturday May 12th to defend their NJCAA Division III National Championship. The team completed a sweep of the individual championships on Saturday at Mercer County Park in a dominant performance from top to bottom. Sophomore AJ Moore (Williamstown HS) won the Individual Singles Championship and then teamed with freshman Donovan Vassalotti (Sacred Heart HS) to win the Doubles Championship as well. "AJ has really matured into a leader on the team," said Head Coach Brian Rowan. "We were really proud of the way he played and set the tone today and in the championship match he played doubles as well as we have seen him play."

Sophomores Andrew Pfieffer (#2 Singles/#2 Doubles) from Pitman HS, Vlad Koldomasov (#4 Singles/#2 Doubles) from Delsea HS and Dan Hays (#5 Singles) all earned individual region championships which had eluded them in their freshman seasons. "Pfieffer stepped up his game this weekend and was a great finisher. He had lost to two of the people he beat on his way to the region championship during the season so it was good redemption for him," added Rowan.

This is the first time in GCC program history that the team has won all nine flights at the Region Tournament. The Roadrunners will be among a group of favorites at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament that will also include Nassau CC (NY), Oxford College (GA), CC Rhode Island, and Rock Valley CC (IL). The Roadrunners are the two-time defending champions of that tournament.
