Gloucester County College finishes the season with an overall record of 43-10 and earned its ninth straight appearance in the NJCAA Division III World Series. The GCC baseball team lost 4-2 to Eastfield College (TX) in the National Championship game. The roadrunners have made 14 appearances in the national tournament and have won 5 National Championships.
Starting pitcher Sean Heimple and shortstop Vinny Johnson earned All-American honors. Vinny Johnson was named NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomore catcher Dale Curry was named Region XIX tournament MVP. Dale belted 8 homeruns in the final two weeks of the season. The two week homerun barrage was highlighted by a 3 homerun performance in the Region XIX Championship Game.
Gloucester County was led by four players hitting over .390 this season: Jim Achey (.418), Tom Reindel (.405), Chris Blackwood (.398) and Vinny Johnson (.395). Reindel also lead the team in runs scored (49) hits (60) and doubles (9). Other key contributors included Sean Barksdale with a team-leading 44 RBI and Stan Orzechowski with a team-leading 51 runs scored and five triples. The pitching rotation was led by Sean Heimpel with 60 strikeouts and a 2.077 ERA in 56.1 innings pitched. Adding dept to the pitching was Robinson Polanco (46 SO, 2.887 ERA, 40.0 IP), Michael Caruso (31.0 SO, 2.639 ERA, 44.1 IP), Beau Ziegler (31 SO, 3.614 ERA, 42.1 IP) and Matt Mongiardini (25 SO, 3.692 ERA, 39.0 IP).
