The GCC women's basketball team has opened the
season 3-0 after their thrilling, come from behind win
over Atlantic Cape CC on Tuesday night at Gloucester
County College. The Roadrunners defeated Salem CC and
Camden CC in their first two games of the season.
GCC led the Bucaneers from Atlantic Cape 33-32 at
halftime on Tuesday but fell behind in the second half
as ACCC's Autumn Foreman went on a scoring spree
(scoring 13 of her 18 points) in the second frame.
With less than ten minutes to go GCC Head Coach Tom
McCormack called timeout as the Roadrunners trailed by
ten points. The Roadrunners turned up the defensive
pressure and forced several late turnovers to get back
into the game but still trailed by one point with :23
seconds to go. That is when GCC sophomore Lindsay
Valentine hit the key free throw to tie it. That was
followed by another ACCC turnover and then a game
winning shot by Lavon Childress with 2.3 seconds left
on the clock.
The dramatic win gives the Roadrunners some momentum
heading into this weekend's CCM Lady Titans Fall
Tournament hosted by the County College of Morris. The
Roadrunners will face Orange CC (NY) in their first game
on Saturday at 4pm. They will face either CC Morris or
Jefferson CC on Sunday in either the consolation game or
championship game.
