Women's Basketball Wins 6th Straight
January 19, 2010
Toms River, NJ
The Roadrunners scored an important win over Region XIX foe Ocean County College (11-5) on Tuesday night. The win moved the Roadrunners to 9-8 overall and continued their win streak, which is now at 6 in a row.
Trailing by 8 points with less than ten minutes to go, the Roadrunners stormed back in the closing minutes to pull off the upset. Freshman guard Devan Solari scored a career-high 26 points, connecting on six 3-point shots each more clutch than the next. The Roadrunners had a chance to win the game in regulation but a jump shot by sophomore guard Tasia Farmer fell just short.
Farmer was outstanding in the overtime frame handling the ball and taking it to the basket when needed. She finished with 19 points and made several key free throws to seal the 71-65 win in the overtime period. Sophomore forward Cynthia Williams continued to excel in the rebounding area collected a total of 24 in the game. Williams is currently 8th in the nation in rebounds per game.
Things do not get much easier for the Roadrunners as they will face Region XIX's top team on Thursday at 5pm when the Jersey Blues from Brookdale CC visit GCC.
Notes: GCC played most of the game without leading scorer Alex Koutras who suffered an injury to her eye early in the game. She hopes to be able to play on Thursday.
Mark your calendar for Thursday February 11th as GCC will host Middlesex CC on “Pink Zone Night.” The teams will be supporting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and Coaches v. Cancer that night by raising awareness and collecting donations. This is a fun night to wear pink, support the Roadrunners, and be a part of something fun on campus.
