Soccer Off to 4-0 Start With Win Over Mercer CC
The Roadrunners are off to a 4-0

The Roadrunner Women’s Soccer Team has
picked up right where they left off last season. The team is
running the system put in place by head coach Megan Ruttler
and playing smothering defense. Many of the faces are new but
the style of play remains the same and has the team off to a
4-0 start that includes four shutouts for freshman goalkeeper
On Tuesday afternoon the Roadrunners passed
their toughest test of the young season with a 1-0 win over
visiting Mercer CC. The Roadrunner defense, led by returning
All-Region 19 performer Missy Trafton, limited the Mercer
chances on goal and what chances Mercer did have were swallowed
up by Barger in net. The lone goal of the game was scored by
freshman Amber Scott early in the first half of play. GCC
created several other chances and had the better of the time of
possession in the game but could not knock in an insurance goal
so the game was tense and well-played through the final moments.
The Roadrunners are looking to take the
final steps this season after steadily improving under Ruttler.
Last season the team reached the NJCAA Region 19 Championship
game before falling to Ocean CC.
Today’s game was a part of what should be a
fun three-game stretch that also includes a good game against
Sussex CC on Saturday and then a feature match vs. Ocean CC on
Thursday September 20th.
