Softball Wins First National
Championship

The GCC Roadrunner Softball Team had a
dominant season and capped it off on Saturday by winning their
first NJCAA Division III National Championship. The Roadrunners
finish the season an impressive 49-5 and went undefeated in the
National Tournament. Head Coach Steve DePasquale led the way to
this championship in his best season at GCC.
In the Championship Tournament, GCC started
strong with a 9-1 win over Anne Arundel CC. In Round 2 GCC
defeated Monroe CC 6-2. Their Round 3 win over Tompkins-Cortland
CC was punctuated by a three-run home run by freshman Justin
Mattia in the 9-7 win. On Saturday GCC jumped out to a 4-0 lead
but needed two runs in the top of the seventh inning to score
the 6-4 win. Katie Trotter and Tina Morgan both worked on the
mound for GCC in the Championship Game win.
