Women's Tennis Off to 3-1 Start to Season
September 20, 2011 Deptford, NJ
The Gloucester CC Women’s Tennis Team is off to
a 3-1 start to the season heading into a busy
weekend of play. The Roadrunners will faceoff with
unbeaten Ocean CC on Thursday afternoon and then
head to the National Invitation Tournament over
the weekend where eight junior college teams will
compete. The team scored its most dramatic win on
Monday afternoon with a 5-4 win over Region 19
rival Mercer CC. After winning two of the three
doubles matches against Mercer the team dropped 3
of the first 5 singles matches and with only one
match left on court the match was tied at 4-4.
Freshman Alina Crumb came through with a three set
win at #4 singles to seal the match in the
Roadrunners favor.
Over the weekend of September
17-18 the team traveled to New York for two matches.
On Saturday the Roadrunners defeated Onondaga CC
8-1. Freshman Julie Guy scored a three set win in
that match that lasted nearly three hours. On Sunday
the team traveled to Broome CC and scored another
8-1 win. Sophomore #1 singles player Avery Forte got
her first win of the season in the match. The
Roadrunners doubles teams have also helped the team
get off to strong starts in their dual matches. The
teams of Joanna O’Donnell / Kirsten Buscher (#2
doubles) and Julie Guy / Jackie Hanley (#3 doubles)
are both undefeated for the season. During the trip
the team was also able to take a tour of Syracuse
University and bonded as a team.
