Women's Tennis Team Participates in Box City Night

Members of the women's tennis team at Box City Night held at Gloucester County College

October 20, 2009 Deptford, NJ

The women's tennis team joined with other student groups on campus to raise money and awareness for the homeless in Gloucester County. Six members of the team participated as did former men's tennis national champion Nick Shepherd. The event was run by the GCC Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and outside groups were invited to speak to the students about the issue of homelessness and ways that people can help.

Box City events have been run across the country but particularly now the issue of homelessness has been more prominent. Team members felt it was important to highlight this issue on a local level.

The women's team will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday as GCC will host the 2009 NJCAA Region XIX Women's Tennis Tournament. The Roadrunners will be looking to repeat as region champions. In 2008, the team took home both the Garden State Athletic Conference title and the Region XIX Championship.
