The women's tennis team competed over the weekend at Mercer County Park in the ITA Northeast Regional Tennis Tournament. The team play was highlighted by the winning combination of sophomore Amanda Berry (Logan Twp., NJ/Kingsway Regional HS) and Courtney Addis (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown HS) who teamed to win the B flight doubles championship.
The winnning match turned out to be final match of the tournament so all eyes were on the Roadrunners as they took on a team from Harford CC (MD.). After splitting the first two sets, a ten point tiebreaker was used to determine the winner. Berry and Addis fell behind 7-4 early but Berry hit two service winners and then put away a backhand volley to tie the score at 7-7. The match went back and forth until Addis outlasted the Harford team in a forehand rally winning the tiebreak 11-9. The win also pulled the Roadrunners into a second place tie in overall team points.
Soph Sara Wilkins (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown HS) was the runner up in the b flight singles competition.
The Roadrunners now have some time off until they play again on 10/6 against Brookdale CC. The scheduled match this week against Ocean CC has been moved to 10/19.
