Low open shelving, child sized furnishing and inviting materials are carefully organized to create an environment that capitalizes on the child’s natural joy in learning. An outdoor playground and indoor play areas ensure that children are provided with daily opportunities for fresh air, movement and active play.
Children are introduced to concepts and skills related to the New Jersey Preschool Learning Expectations. Throughout the day, they are invited to participate in activities which include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social and Emotional Development, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Physical and Health Education, Technology and Sign Language.
Our classrooms are organized into various learning centers including:
- Blocks (encourages learning about sizes and shapes, weights and balances, height and depth, and texture, develops social skills and appropriate peer interactions)
- Dramatic Play/House Area (enhances role-playing and pretending)
- Creative Arts (develops imagination, decision-making, and fine motor skills)
- Books and Puzzles (engages children in problem-solving, critical thinking, reading readiness and independent and small group play)
- Cooking (introduces children to math and language arts using recipes and measurement)
- Writing Table (allows children to “write” as part of play, writing letters to family or friends, drawing pictures, and tracing using various writing materials including pencils and crayons, magnet boards, chalk and dry erase boards)
- Sand/Water Table (children work on many science and math related goals, such as sink or float, size and measurement, experimenting with measuring spoons, cups and different sized containers)
- Music and Movement (an opportunity for children to express themselves using their voices and bodies, develop language and gross motor skills, and explore various cultures through music)
** In collaboration with GCSSSD, Our integrated preschool classroom provides education for children with special needs in a highly structured preschool setting. The children benefit from positive peer role models in a language rich environment. Children with Individualized Education Plans have the opportunity to work with appropriate accommodations and structured routines. A high child to staff ratio ensures adequate attention is given to all children in the class. Preschoolers learn continually through interactions with the teachers and with each other. Small and large group activities help prepare them for wider social interactions, and imaginative play helps them practice the social roles they see modeled at home and in the larger world.
