Adult Basic Education classes are for adults who do not possess a high school diploma and require training in basic (below high school level) reading, writing, and math.

Registration

A placement test is required for all adult education classes. The GCC staff will evaluate your skills and help you register for the class that is right for you.

No mail-in registration is accepted for Adult Basic Education (ABE), Basic Skills, GED, or the English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. Students may come in person to register. Call (856) 468-5000 extension 6227 or email Jean Bingham at jbingha1@gccnj.edu for more information.

The $10 nonrefundable registration fee must be paid with check, money order or credit card at the time of registration.

*Anyone who is 16-21 years old must complete a certificate of non-enrollment form. The certificate is available at your local high school.

What are the times of the program?

Day:
Monday through Thursday
8:30 am – 11:30 am at GCC
9 am - 12:00 pm at St. Matthews

Evening:
Tuesday and Thursday
6 pm - 9 pm at GCIT

Where are the classes?

Gloucester County College & St. Matthews Community Development Recreation Center, GCIT.

When do classes start?

We offer start dates each month.

How much is the program?

The program is free although there is a $10 nonrefundable registration fee.

What level do I start at?

An assessment will be given to you to determine proper level placement.

Can I just come for one subject?

Yes. You will be given a complete testing assessment in all areas but you can choose to concentrate on one area.

I have my diploma.  Can I just come to brush up before taking the college entrance exam?

Yes. You will be given a complete testing assessment in all areas and we will help you brush up on those areas that you need for the placement test.

How long do I stay in the program?

During the day we offer 10 week modules. Everyone’s needs are different. You are free to stay in the program for as long as it takes to reach your goal.

Do I have to go to every class session?

You are required to attend every session during the first two weeks of the program to complete testing and orientation. After the second week, the staff will work closely with you to develop a schedule. 

How do I register?

You may register in person.  We are located in the Continuing Education Building.

How do I know when I’m ready to take the GED test?

Our instructors will guide you through the program and test you to determine if you are ready to go on and take the GED test. 

Is the GED test given at the college?

Yes. Gloucester County College is an official New Jersey GED Test Center.  You can register in the Continuing Education office. Call 856-468-5000 x6228 for registration information and testing dates.
