Endowment Scholarships

Increased scholarship endowment would enable Gloucester County College to offer deserving students the opportunity to pursue their academic goals.  More available scholarships would mean that students would not have to rely so heavily on loans or devote as much time during the academic year to earning money to pay for their educational expenses.  Scholarship endowment is critical to ensuring that the doors of higher education remain open to bright and deserving students, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Endowed scholarships require a minimum commitment of $10,000 to be established. The scholarship then becomes a permanent tribute to a person whose name it bears, to an association that sponsors the scholarship, or to a business/corporation wishing to permanently assist Gloucester County College students.

All funds deposited in a scholarship endowment will be held in trust by the Gloucester County College Foundation. These funds are invested in accordance with the general investment guidelines of the Gloucester County College Foundation. The Gloucester County College Foundation will hold the corpus in perpetuity, and shall use the annual earned income to provide an annual scholarship

Frequently asked questions?

How is an endowed scholarship different from other scholarships?
Traditional scholarships require that the donor provide funds each year for a scholarship. If funds are not provided, the scholarship is not offered to Gloucester County College students.

Endowed scholarships are funds that are established to perpetually provide financial support for Gloucester County College students. Once the scholarship is fully funded, funds are invested by the Gloucester County College Foundation.  The interest earned, through investment, is then available each year to provided a deserving student with a scholarship.

Endowed scholarship will last forever, and frequently an endowment is established for a family member or someone that provided service to a corporation or business.  The Endowment provides a legacy that will last forever.

Is there a minimum amount needed to establish an endowment scholarship?
At Gloucester County College the minimum amount to establish an endowed scholarship is $10,000.00.

Do I need to pay the entire amount to establish an endowment?
No.  The Gloucester County College Foundation will allow the endowment to be fully funded over a period of five years.  Once a donor commits to establish the endowment, the GCC Foundation will permit the endowment to be funded in five years or less, but does require it be funded in that period of time.

The minimum amount that the Gloucester County College Foundation will accept to establish an endowment is $2,000.  Donors wishing to establish an endowment can fund the scholarship by providing the entire $10,000, or any amount between the $2,000 and $10,000 amount.

What assets can be donated to establish an endowment?
Endowments can be established by the transfer of various assets to the Gloucester County College Foundation.  Cash, Securities, interest in IRA accounts, Keogh Accounts, 401 K accounts, real estate, jewelry, precious metals and other valuable assets, can be used to establish the account.  Assets that are subject to market value variations will be reviewed on an individual basis to determine value for purpose of establishing the endowment.

Are there any other benefits to establishing an endowment at Gloucester County College?
Yes!  Once a donor has committed to establishing an endowment, the Gloucester County College Foundation may provide a temporary scholarship in the donor’s name, while the endowment is being fully funded.  The temporary scholarship is typically in the sum of $250, but immediately provides a scholarship for Gloucester County College students.
