Library: Welcome: Message from the Director

Jane L. Crocker
Director

We are pleased to present our staff, services and collection to you through our webpage. Many exciting changes are occurring on campus and in the library (upgraded Internet workstations, new databases available through the Internet, full-text journal databases that can be accessed on campus, at home or any other remote location, an improved bibliographic instruction program with an information literacy focus, and the new LOGIN Consortia which expands our holdings database to 1 million items and allows access to 16 local libraries in Gloucester and Salem counties. Additional innovations will be implemented as we continue to integrate evolving technologies into our library services.

Traditional offerings will continue to be supported with a total collection of over 60,416 items (including a book collection of 56,473 volumes and 3,943 audio holdings.) 135 journal subscriptions, and over 155,000 pieces of microforms are also held in the GCC Library. Most importantly, a friendly and helpful staff will assist you in your quest for basic information and higher level research.

Whether you are on campus or off, most of our information services are available to you via the Internet. Some of these new services are:

QandANJ– basic reference questions can be answered online 24/7 through a state-wide reference service. Log onto QandA NJ to reach a “live” reference librarian who answers questions in real-time.

Upgraded automation system – our online catalog of holdings is available through the Internet at www.Login-libraries.org

Online full text periodicals – EBSCOhost offers access to thousands of periodicals and VALE (consortium of academic libraries in New Jersey) offers access to ABI/INFORM Business which contains1,800 US and international journals and trade publications. These databases are available, through the Portal to all our students, faculty and staff, whether on campus, at home, work or other remote location.

Bookmarked websites, that represent the best of the best, and are selected by the Reference staff and are hyperlinked from the library webpage. These are available to anyone who accesses our webpage.

Specialized databases – LEXIS-NEXIS is for our paralegal students only while CINAHL, Pre-CINAHL, CQ Researcher, Criminal Justice, Science Reference Center, MEDline, RefUSA and SocINDEX are easily accessible to all users. GALE Literary Resource Center and LION offer on-campus and remote access to literary databases.

Audiobooks -- a varied selection of over 1300 titles of online audiobooks can be easily downloaded onto MP3 players, computers and burned to CDs. Go to http://sjrlc.lib.overdrive.com for information on this service.

Future Acquisitions – look for more databases in the near future as we acquire them.

Thank you for visiting us online, and do visit us in person. Please come back whenever you need information, as we are always happy to serve your needs.
