The Astronomy Club

CLUB DESCRIPTION

In our club you will witness the delights of the night. You will be amazed by the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and the far off galaxies of the universe all displayed through our automatic-tracking and GPS enabled telescope. We also participate in many enriching activities with our community. Some of these events have included: Attending the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society meetings at the Franklin Institute, partaking in the Autism Walk at Riverwinds, observing at Basto Village, giving presentations to the boy scouts and girl scouts, and having the privilege of hosting lectures given by NASA ambassador, Dr. Ken Kremer.

The Astronomy Club, launched in the fall of 2007, was jump started by GCC's own math major, Michael Furey, and continues to flourish as it broadens the minds of students under the active support and tutelage of its club adviser Bob Freeman. Our club is off to a great start in our first year, and we hope to expand our horizons and ventures to even more thrilling activities as we improve our knowledge of the universe. From community philanthropy and observing on campus to proving Keplar's laws of planetary motion, the GCC stargazers are always having a grand time, so come join us!
