In order to assure that your advisement session is as productive as possible, you need to be very involved with your advisement. Below are some suggestions for things to consider in your advisement sessions.

  1. Discuss your long range goals with your advisor
  2. Discuss your choice of major with your advisor
  3. Make final decisions about choices concerning academic matters
  4. Be able and willing to ask intelligent questions about your degree program
  5. Know the requirements for your major
  6. Keep your advisor informed of changes in schedule, academic majors, etc.
  7. Make regular appointments and seek help when needed
  8. Keep advisement appointments, be on time, and be prepared
  9. Gather all decision making information before advisement appointment
  10. Follow through when you are referred to another office or person
  11. Accept responsibility for decisions and academic choices
